2020- When the world came to a stop i started going back to the basics. People weren’t booking sessions, heck not even leaving their houses. Our home in Colorado had some property in a very rural area. I would adventure around the property and find new things, things we often over look on the day-to-day. As life went back to normal i had less and less time for the basics. We had a little one in 2021 so i definitely didn’t have time for much, since we were catching up from the lack of work in 2020.

Fast forward to 2022 and we ended up relocating to North Carolina (if you missed that blog go give it a read). So, why as a North Carolina Family Photographer am i blogging about the basics of how we start into the photography world? Glad you asked. In a way i kind of have to start my business over. Which gives me a lot of time to explore another love of mine…. Fine Art & Travel photography.

It is something that keeps coming back year after year and vacation after vacation. I edit these photos and sometimes share them on my facebook. Family/friends/clients often purchase these photos and hang them in their homes, heck i even print them on huge metal prints and have them in my house.

While i am no National Geographic photographer, this is my passion and it comes in more than one form. What started it all originally was photographing the adventures of life. The ordinary things that are truly extraordinary that we over look daily. Photographing the world is what has got me here today. A professional Family Photographer. The first family that ever asked me to take their photos, only asked because i was sharing my Fine Art Photography on my facebook. Back to the basics or the beginning if you will. Sharing the adventure of life. Come take a walk with me, through the crunchy fallen leaves on this warm December day. Too find all the prettiest little things and highlight their beauty. When we moved Kevin (My husband) into our North Carolina house. I remember walking our property. We have this trail cut out that leads back to a creek, with a deer feeder the original owners left. We had walked back to that creek and on the way back i spotted the tiniest little mushrooms. They were a very vibrant yellow and red. I was shocked, i had never seen a mushroom like this before. We were on a time crunch i did not have my main camera but i did have all my back up gear. I told myself, “Come back before you leave and take photos of these.” Did that happen? NO! We were tight on time and it slipped my mind.

When i finally made the move out in October the first thing i did was go check for those mushrooms. Heartbroken they were gone. Life was busy finishing out my sessions in Colorado that i didn’t get the time to check or adventure. Until this beautiful December day! I walked the trail again slowly. Even though it is cold i want to watch for snakes. If you know me, you know danger noodles and i do not like one another. I was beginging to get discouraged walking back out until i spot this tiny white mushroom off to my right 10′ or so.

I quickly learned this mushroom was a “White Dapperling”. The clouds were coming and going taking away my sunlight so i improvised and used my phones flashlight to give it a warmer feel, and highlight this lonely mushrooms beauty.

Continuing my exploring further, they literally were everywhere. I found some stunning “Yellowleg Bonnets” and “Common Laccaria” mushrooms. I almost slipped and fell from avoiding stepping on the Common Laccaria. At this point i was tooooooo dang excited to explore any further so in the house i went to edit these immediately.
